How you can help us

There are over 6,000 people living in East Sussex who are registered as blind or partially sighted, the majority of whom are over the age of 75. Blindness can impact on people’s independence, affecting their confidence, mobility and ability to undertake daily tasks such as shopping, cooking and reading. It can also lead to people becoming very isolated.

ESAB spends about £300,000 a year providing services to 1,700 clients, and we want to expand our services. We do not receive any funding from central government or national societies such as the RNIB. We raise money from lots of different sources including Trusts, contracts, fundraising events, donations and membership fees.

Gift Aid

If you are a tax payer please consider Gift Aiding your donation by completing the relevant section of the donation form. Gift Aid means ESAB can reclaim an additional 28p for every £1 you donate. Hence if you make a donation of £10, it could be worth £12.80 to us.

Leave a Legacy

By remembering ESAB in your Will today, you can make a difference to someone’s life in the future.

Legacies are a very important source of income for us. In 2008 Mr Albert Carter left ESAB a legacy which enabled us to improve and develop our Independent Living Centre. This is very busy and popular with our clients, hence Mr Carter’s legacy is making a difference to people’s lives every day.

Making a Will is the only way to ensure your wishes are followed and ESAB recommends using a solicitor to write, or change, your Will for you. Many offer a set price for Will writing and are often not as expensive as you might think. If you are thinking of leaving a gift to ESAB in your Will, please give your solicitor the following details:

The East Sussex Association of Blind and Partially Sighted People (ESAB)

Registered charity 209535

In-memorial giving

In 2008 we received £1,950 through donations given in-memory of a loved one. Many of our clients have asked that donations be made to ESAB in lieu of flowers at their funeral service. In-memory giving helps us to make a lasting difference to someone else’s life.

Fundraising Events

If you would like to organise a fundraising event for ESAB please contact our Fundraiser on 01323 832252. Ideas for events include coffee mornings, open gardens and sponsored events.
